Stitching Tea Towels

It’s been a busy weekend sewing baby quilts and mini wall quilts for my shop, but I had to finish these little cuties first so I could give you a sneak peek.

I love tea towels and have been stitching them for a few years now.  I use premium cotton muslin, hand cut, hand embroider and hand sew each one. I then prewash and press with a hot steamy iron for that vintage look and feel.

Bluebird Tea Towels

Bluebirds are the theme for today’s tea towels. I saw these adorable vintage patterns online and had to have them. The first set is stitched in true blues with white/blue flowers, accented with yellow. These blue colors are hard to find in my area, but after visiting 7-8 fabric shops I found the exact color that I wanted.

This trio of towels was really fun to stitch. I found some beautiful variegated flosses a few months back and knew that I had to use them on something special.  I love the way the floss makes the vase, teapot and glassware appear to have a shiny surface. The reflection of the bluebird’d face on the vase is just adorable.
